This galaxy can be see in a reasonably dark site with the naked eye - making it the most remote object visible without the aid of a telescope or binoculars.
NOTE: This is the same image as elsewhere on the site but with improved processing done in May 2009.
Distance: Estimated at 2.9 million light years away and 250,000 light years across

Telescope: Astrophysics Starfire 130 EDT F8 using the .75X telecompressor
Mount: Losmandy G11 with Gemini Control with Advanced Telescope Systems
